A veterinary prescription cardiac medication developed by Dechra for the treatment of congestive heart failure in dogs. Cardisure contains pimobendan, which works by both strengthening the heart's contractions and dilating blood vessels, reducing the workload on the heart and improving blood circulation. When used in cases of valvular insufficiency alongside furosemide, it has been shown to improve quality of life and extend life expectancy in treated dogs. Each pack contains 10 flavored tablets of 10 mg, scored for easy splitting into quarters.
Composition
Active ingredient: Pimobendan 10 mg per tablet. Flavored tablet, scored on one side. Can be divided into 4 equal parts.
Dosage & Administration
Administer orally at a total daily dose of 0.5 mg per kg of body weight, divided into two equal doses approximately 12 hours apart (morning and evening). Give on an empty stomach at least 1 hour before feeding, as absorption is significantly reduced when given with food. The maintenance dose should be individually adjusted by the veterinarian according to disease severity. Can be combined with diuretic treatment such as furosemide. Store out of reach of dogs as the flavoring may encourage them to seek the medication.
- Dogs 40 kg and above: dosing as directed by the veterinarian using whole or split tablets to achieve the recommended 0.5 mg/kg daily dose
