Description:
Prevomax is a veterinary medication used to treat and prevent vomiting in dogs and cats, often alongside other supportive treatments.
Uses:
- Cats: Reduces nausea.
- Dogs:
- Prevents and treats nausea and vomiting before and after surgery.
- Aids in recovery from general anesthesia following morphine use.
- Helps prevent and treat nausea caused by chemotherapy.
Dosage and Administration:
- Administered once daily by subcutaneous (under the skin) or intravenous (into a vein) injection at 1 mg/kg body weight for up to five days.
- For vomiting prevention, administer at least one hour before the triggering event.
Possible Side Effects:
- Pain may occur at the injection site when given subcutaneously.
- Cats may experience a moderate to severe reaction to the injection in about one-third of cases.
- Rarely, allergic reactions such as swelling (oedema), hives (urticaria), redness (erythema), breathing difficulty (dyspnoea), pale mucous membranes, or collapse may occur.
