NexGard Spectra is a highly palatable, beef-flavoured monthly chewable tablet for dogs, developed by Boehringer Ingelheim. It combines two active ingredients — afoxolaner and milbemycin oxime — to deliver broad-spectrum protection against both external and internal parasites in a single monthly dose. Afoxolaner, an isoxazoline ectoparasiticide, kills fleas before they can lay eggs and provides persistent activity against ticks and mites. Milbemycin oxime, a macrocyclic lactone endectocide, treats and controls gastrointestinal roundworms, prevents heartworm disease, and controls lungworm infections.
The tablet is absorbed quickly — afoxolaner reaches peak plasma concentration within 2–4 hours and has a terminal half-life of approximately 2 weeks in dogs, ensuring sustained monthly protection. Milbemycin oxime is absorbed within 1–2 hours and provides reliable anthelmintic coverage throughout the month. No bathing or swimming restrictions apply as this is an oral treatment.
For dogs and puppies from 8 weeks of age weighing 15–30 kg. Administer one tablet orally once a month. Can be given with or without food. Do not divide the tablet. If vomiting occurs within 2 hours of administration, re-dose with a full dose. Use with caution in dogs with a history of seizures or neurological disorders. The recommended dose should be strictly observed in collies and related breeds due to sensitivity to macrocyclic lactones. Safety has not been established during pregnancy, lactation, or in breeding dogs. Available in a pack of 3 chewable tablets. For use under veterinary supervision only.
